Real Estate is like BarBQ...

smokeYes it is! Here me out. In real estate we need to form relationships. These relationship will generate not only a sale in the near future, but when done correctly, they will generate referrals and repeat business. These types of relationships take time and effort, preparation, and you must tend them with patience. When they are ready and in their own time they will be awesome.

A steak can be slapped on a grill and be ready to eat in minutes. It tastes fine and will fill you up, but it wont be memorable. Just like a client you treat as a quick sale and then forget about like last nights steak. You won't be remembered.

Texans have a passion; its brisket. Now brisket is a tough chunk of meat thats inexpensive and honestly you can't eat most of the time. Unless, you know Smoke-ology. Yes, its a real term look it up. Ok, if you take this tough chunk of meat and trim all the fat off, rub it in olive oil and cover it in a magical combination of spices and let it set overnight. Then you get up at 3:00am and build your hardwood charcoal fire and get the smoker set right at 225 degrees and put that meat on for 14 hours you have magic. Brother, whomever you bless with this meal will remember your name and bless you for it.

doneThe one catch is you can't rush it, the brisket is done when its done and no sooner. Now go out this weekend and enjoy your holiday and try your hand at smoking a brisket. Once your done with that great meal, head inside and look through your old client list and see who you can call just to catch up. Then keep in touch with them, a card, an email or a phone call from time to time. Let the relationship mature on its own time and see if you don't become the REALTOR they remember...

Great analogy! I sure do like me some good brisket, though I am not from Texas :) Enjoy this weekend with your family! You just made me very hungry!

I love the analogy.  Before moving to Texas we did not even know what a brisket was.  This last weekend we celebrated my Mother's 85th birthday and my husband cooked a brisket for the celebration.  We froze it and then took it on the plane with us to Colorado.  It was well received!

@Marchel - How awesome, flying a brisket to a family member out of state. I hope your mom has a wonderful birthday!
