This past Tuesday, EATALY, the Italian food and wine destination and brainchild of celebrity chef Mario Batali, Joe Bastianich, Lidia Matticchio Bastianich and Eataly founder Oscar Farinetti opened at 200 Fifth Avenue and 23rd Street in the old Toy Building in Manhattan.
A multilevel extravaganza of Italian food and wine called EATALY, the complex occupies nearly 50,000 square feet of space where Italian food-lovers can enjoy seven boutique restaurants - including a fine-dining Italian steakhouse called Manzo, a Neapolitan pizzeria and a year-round rooftop beer garden and microbrewery, not to mention a cooking school where Batali and others will teach classes throughout the year. It also has retail sections for everything from Italian housewares to prosciutto di Parma, a wine shop, bakery and patisserie, plus a supermarket-sized Italian food and wine marketplace.
The cooking school (classes begin in October) will even include an in-house travel agency that will organize trips. And in a partnership with Rizzoli, there will be a culinary corner primarily dedicated to cookbooks focusing on Italian food and wine.
I can't wait to go there. Anything with Mario's name on it is a hit!! Make sure to visit EATALY and stay tuned for more!
