Google - Beyond the Obvious

Education & Training with Tech Training for You!

Google is often synonymous with "searching the web" - in other words someone tells you "did you google it?" Alright, everybody knows google for searching but what you might not know is that it has some really great additional features for finding quick answers.

For example, did you know that it was a calculator AND that it can do units conversion. Consider this, you have a 60' x 120' property and want to know the acreage. Notice what you can type in below:

Now what if you are travelling to visit a different city. Let's say Seattle. Let's find out the time that the sun currently sets there and what the upcoming weather is going to be.

Next, you are travelling to Paris. Hmmm... what time is it NOW (reminder of how many hours ahead is it). Also, what is the current exchange rate for the Euro? notice these google searches below

There are lots of other 'hidden' things that you hadn't yet discovered that google can tell you quickly. Consider movie times, UPS tracking, FedEx tracking, area codes, zip codes etc.

This Google Help Page will give you a more comprehensive list of some things that you can know about the next time you want to "google it"

I like the calculator/ onversion tool, and the quick movie access, but I am SOOO happy about the quick weather access. My hubby had the weather channel loaded into the boot-up menu on the laptop and it not only takes up space on the hard drive, it was taking longer for the system to fully load everything. Always made me a little crazy because I figured I had a pretty good idea about the weather by looking out the window and I had to wait while the computer went through its programmed menus to tell me about it before I could do everything else! LOL  --  I am taking the weather channel OFF my start-up menu!

Wow, those are some neat ideas!  I love Google and everything you can do on it.  My husband calls me his "google girl" because I use it for everything!  Now I have a few more things I can do with it.  Love the screenshots you took!
