Is it crucial to do social media to succeed in your business, and if so which sites are the most important?

I keep battling with the issue of time needed to keep on top of my social media sites.

Do you have a schedule of how much time to allow for each site and emails?  If so how successful are you in keeping that schedule?  It is too easy to get wrapped up in reading about what is going on with other people and not get your posting done and then leave....

Is it crucial to do social media to succeed in your business, and if so which sites are the most important?

Do you blog?  How often do you post to your blog?

All these things that we are told that is important for us to do...

How do we measure the amount of success and additional business we are getting due to social media?

I hope you can answer these questions because I am so over whelmed with the lack of time to finish everything.;..

Not sure if it is crucial if you have many years of referrals that keep streaming in. But, I think it is important to advertise whereever you find it comfortable. Only you and your local advisors can deterimine that. That is what I see the social media as being. I received a phone call 3 days ago from an out of state person who saw my information and wants to buy several houses.

Absolutely. I am no social media expert, but I have been to many semianrs and webinars and heard a lot of 'gurus' say that we have to get on the social media bandwagon.

The major social media site that you can start with are Facebook, twitter, linked in and youtube... there are new such sites popping every minute.. but these are the giants( for now!).

Hope that helps. I am overwhelmed as well. I try to spend 30minutes per day on such tasks...

Brenda, you are 'blogging' that itself is a step towards your web-presence. Social media is must, many say but I know many successful realtors(r) who do not even have a facebook account! So, to answer your question - is it must? I'd say no. Is it helpful, I'd say, sure.

Try to attend SMMCamp.com - on Sept 9 and see if it is for you or not!

Brenda--I will never forget just a few short years ago a realtor in my office told me that e-mail was just a 'fad'!!!  Needless to say, he got left in the dust.  I try to stay up on everything I can so that I do not get left behind.  Better to learn a little at a time and try to keep up with it than to one day realize you are lost!

Yes!  Please make the time.  Social media is a must IMO.  Without ActiveRain my business would not be as successful!  FB has also been a blessing.  Networking with REA's in my area is really cool!  No more cold calls :)  I don't blog as much as I use to, however it is very important for "google juice".  My goal is to blog at least week. :)

Thanks Janice,

I am going to make the time and I will have to get better at blogging. I guess practice makes perfect :)

My husbands family is in Sun City, Ca and in Murrieta.  His Sister is in Real Estate in Sun City, I will have to refer you to her when she needs someone.

Have a great week end.

Brenda - How cool is that that your husband's family is in my area!!!  This is EXACTLY what I am talking about when I commented that Social Media is a must!! If I wasn't Active on Acitverain I never would have found out about your in-laws!  Now you are going to refer lil' ole' ME to your Sister-in-law!!  Very cool!  Is she an ActiveRain member?  If not, you should invite her!!

Thanks again for the referral and best of luck to you in the Social Media World!
