Don't Be THIS Agent!!!

I was doing a couple of searches on Twitter this afternoon for a project of mine, when I just happened to come across the following tweet from @meaghan_h:

"Starving and have shit to do, but I'm waiting by the phone for my real estate lady to call back. I feel like I'm in a bad Taylor Swift song."

OK, so it had me chuckling and I had to re-tweet it...but really, it's not funny!  It wreaks of a lack of professionalism on her agent's part and shows very clearly the frustration the client is feeling.

If I found this tweet, I am sure others did as well...agents...who were more than happy to @mention the client and let them know that they feel her pain and if she decides to part ways with her agent they will be more than happy to serve her in a much more professional manner.  It might not be exactly an ethical thing to do...but I guarantee someone probably did it!

Don't let your clients have an urge to post a tweet like this...if you're late to a meeting, call...let them know...keep them on the phone so that they don't have an opportunity to mobile tweet!  LOL  Just kidding...be professional...if you're going to be late, well, you shouldn't be late, but if you really can't avoid it, show your client the courtesy of a heads up before hand so that they aren't sitting around waiting...and tweeting ;-)

But on the flip side - maybe "@meaghan_h" is super demanding and when she calls her agent, expects a call back in 5 minutes. I've had buyers call me (per my caller ID) 5 times in one hour leaving huffy messages that they've been trying to reach me.  There could be another side of the story.

Oh my goodness, that is hilarious! I would hope that my clients would call me if they were starving and waiting for me to call. :) Thanks for the post!

LaNita - are you her agent?  LOL  I am completely kidding!  Of course you aren't!!!  And you are very correct...that could be the case...but either way, what's that law of marketing...one bad review can cancel out 7 good reviews?  I don't know the exact theory...but it's something like that!

Jami - I thought it was funny too...and sad...but really funny...my daughter loves Taylor Swift...as do I, so it just struck a cord with me :-) Thanks for commenting!

Regardless if she is one of those crazies who expect you to be theirs 24/7 the most important thing is to try to get your clients to not tweet like that. help them understand why you aren't calling you back. I can't tell you how many times I have called a customer back and said, "I'm out with buyers right now, but I got your message and I am going to call you later tonight so we can catch up." I hate making clients wait.

Communication is the key... I hope that the agent was trying to get more information for her instead of just lack of courtesy... or better yet, an answer back on an offer... which would put it all into perspective as why she had not eaten and was waiting for the call..

Random thoughts:

Though I'm more of a rock-and-roll fan, I can't think of any country songs dealing with real estate. Now, there's some unexplored territory!

And, you know when you're getting old when . . . . My son likes to tease me about how ancient I am. In looking up info on Taylor Swift (who I'd heard of, but hadn't really followed much), I see that's she's 2 days older than my son. So, I am old . . . but he's no country star, either!

Elise - I couldn't agree more! Call to let them know what's up...  Thanks for stopping bye!

Darren - An answer on an offer would be great...but even in that instance, I think the agent could spare a few seconds to call or text the client and give them an update! Thanks for your comment!

Donald - LOL - random is always entertaining!

Christine, did you see this Think Big Work Small video?  I watch these guys every day, they make me laugh.  How many times have you tried to call an agent more than once just to get a return phone call?  It's like you said "unprofessional".

I would be completely embarrassed as her agent! To be tweeted about like that...

Too funny. Goes to show that clients need feedback & follow-ups more often than we think they need them! Keep 'em in the loop...and for goodness sake...keep them off Twitter!

Evelyn - I know, right?  Twitter can be cool and cruel all at the same time :-)

Chris - Clients definitely need to be updated...a lot!  Communication is the key to a healty relationship...no matter whether personal or professional!
