Do You Turn a Blind Eye?

By
Real Estate Agent with Liberty Homes RS-#62825

There are good and bad in all walks of life.

WE all know that.

It's a part of being human when we understand that being human includes not being perfect. There are no two people alike; no two minds thinking the same. Opinions from each human being are like apples and oranges that twist to suit the thoughts that come from ingrained beliefs.

So, what happens to our real estate industry when those ‘walks of life' that we don't agree with seemingly creep into the cracks of ethical walls?  For example: Back in the day, like in high school, you're taking a test and the kid sitting next to you keeps whispering for the answers. What did you do back then?

We work so closely together in the industry that we will cross paths with each other more often than not. So, with that ingrained belief surely many turn a blind eye when the bad apples (or oranges) do something that we believe is a not so.....right.

There are good and bad in all walks of life.

WE all know that.

But to turn a blind eye is no more right than the one who did the wrong.

Taking a blind eye....one of the many variations on the theme of doing things the easy way.

Jim: It can't be easy for those that take the 'easy way'. Those that choose that route spend a large amount of time trying to justify why they did what they did, right?

Celeste, IMHO, Turning a blind eye to the event makes you as guilty if not more so than the party "doing the deed". It takes more kahoonas to stand up and do what is right than just to let things slide. But then, that is my 2¢'s worth...

Avoid confrontation- Put personal safety first- if someone is doing something unethical best to discuss it with your Broker rather than take matters into your own hands. Little things can turn ugly quickly.

I agree turning a blind eye makes you a party to the action.  Of course, it does make a difference how you approach the person but to not do anything is wrong.

Good morning Sally,

Very thoughtful post and one we should really think about. Many times it's easier to not confront the guilty party because we are busy and don't have time for the hassle. However we hurt ourselves in the end for not doing the "right" thing.

Turning away from someone doing wrong is tacit approval of the action. It also says a lot about both individuals!

Sally it was easy in High School when the kid next to asked for the answers, I would give him the wrong answers.  I can't understand why he stopped asking .............. LOL

And by the way turning a blind eye is as bad as the wrong, be cause now we have become part of aiding the wrong.

George: That's funny! Enabling is definitely not my thing. I refuse!

Valerie: It's at the temple in Kaneohe.

Russell: Good saying....a good reminder indeed

Gary: So right Gary. I definitley can't do the aiding thing. I can however speak up in hopes they change their ways.

Sally ~  I always weigh things a bit.  I try to talk to the person and give them a chance to take corrective action.  I think often we may judge.. or even misintrepret something.. So I think it is important not to jump to conclusions.

I'm trying to get my head wrapped around your motive for writing this - philisophical moment, or springing from some recent interaction that demanded a response?  Seems like a proposition that demands an example to make it more concrete...
