The elk are bugling already in Keene Ranch subdivision Castle Rock Colorado
When the elk start bugling, it's usually considered a "fall thing". We heard our first bugling here in Keene Ranch over a week ago, if you can believe that! My first thought: oh, no! It's too early for that already. Reminds me of a game we used to play when we were little: "ready or not, here I come"!
I'm going to miss driving home and seeing the deer nibbling on the horse mint (my favorite wild flower in Keene Ranch!) See the picture here with a nice buck (still in velvet) surprised that I caught him munching on the flowers!
I'm not ready to have anything to do with fall yet! Goodness, we just finally got the summer going!
Afterall, my pumpkin vines don't even have any pumpkins growing??? I've had plenty of the beautiful yellow flowers, but no pumpkins. What's up with that? Could it be because of our slightly higher altitude in Keene Ranch? I admit, I am a rooky at trying to grow stuff, so if anyone can give me some advise on why the vines are barron, I might be able to grow some next year... maybe!
What is up with all of these early Keene Ranch fall signs anyway? I'm not tired yet of weedi
ng or mowing, which is usually the very first sign of fall for me. That accompanied with allergies, of course!
I have to admit that I still have way too many barbeques planned for my husband to demonstrate his great grilling techniques before it's fall!

eem even my koi know the seasons are changing. They seem to be enjoying the cooler weather right now. Their digestive systems start to slow down as the weather cools down so I have to change their food to a lighter variety. And by the end of next month, they'll start their winter hibernation mode which shuts down their digestive system pretty much altogether till Springtime. (That's when I have to do inventory to make sure they all made it through the winter.)
I was curious the other day (guess I should say the other "evening") when I glanced at my office window and saw it was getting dark already. 
So I Googled to see how many minutes a day of sunshine we are losing right now.
Any idea? Of course it has to do with where you live, but on an average we are losing 2 minutes of sunshine per day right now.
Doesn't sound like a lot, does it? But next week we will have lost almost an additional quarter of an hour of that beautiful provider of vitamin D! (Yesterday I ran to the corner drug store and picked up some extra sun screen before they pull it all from the shelves!)
I shudder to even think about the "s" word! Hey, and you know around here it's not uncommon to get our first snow in Keene Ranch around the 20th. (Yes, that would be the 20th of September, unfortunately.)
All these signs are warning me that we better get the fifth wheel closed up and winterized pretty soon. But NOT before the Aspen trees turn! I'm sure I'll have time to get a couple more trips up to the campground before we have to start worrying about an overnight freeze. ***fingers crossed***
