In many ways St. Cloud, MN will always be a small town, even in the way business is done, but the volume of business is another matter.
St. Cloud is a Retail Giant, drawing shoppers from hours away, to this centrally located, easy to get around, horn of plenty!
The 2009 census estimate for St. Cloud is 67,136, but the service population often swells to over 250,000. People come here for school, medical care, and quite regularly to buy whatever they need, from cars to clothing, groceries to electronics, building supplies to farms equipment. St. Cloud is a shorter drive than Minneapolis-St. Paul, and less freeway/more ground level, for many people, and, almost everything is less expensive here!
Conveniently located in and around the malls are plentiful shops and boutiques. Saint Cloud also has diverse restaurants, delis, taverns, and hotels, and after a busy day of shopping, or site seeing, people need food, drink and sometimes a place to stay. Demographic studies have shown, families have come to St. Cloud as a destination for shopping and entertainment, from over 100 miles away. Large items, clothing and groceries make for a full vehicle on the trip home.
A new retail development is opening soon on the St. Cloud-Sartell border,
anchored by Sam's Club and Super Wallmart. Other shops will gravitate towards this multi-acre site.
We all have our favorites. Some like Crossroads Center, the big mall, others prefer Herberger's downtown, while still others like the small local shops like Czarnetzki Hardware Hank, where they have stuff you can't find at the Big Box Stores (if you own an older or Historic house, these guys are your friends). A client recently relocated here from Texas and found the Fleet Farm store (the man mall), where "they have everything." I agree.
If you cannot find what you are looking for here in St. Cloud, the Retail Giant, I think you're clothes budget might be too big!
