ActiveRain University provides live daily webinars led by our own Steven Graham.  ARU covers everything from SEO Blog Training to Draft Review to Outside Blogs.

We are looking for an expert in Fair Housing laws that would be willing to lead a webinar to the ActiveRain members.  Fair Housing is a very important subject and one we could all use a refresher on.  Hey...you never know what you are going to learn.

If you are an AR member who feels they are an expert in Fair Housing and would be willing to lead a webinar, answer questions and share your knowledge please let us know.  We'd be happy to compensate you for your time and efforts.  The webinar would be approximately an hour long, most likely become a monthly engagement and all AR members would be invited to attend.

If you're ready to teach and share your knowledge we'd be more than grateful and I'm sure the members of AR would be too!

Be CAREFUL as there are FEDERAL and state and then local fair housing laws.  VA has the federal protected classes AND elderliness...many areas of the country have source of income * Section 8 * as a protected class.  Since this is state and locality specific, most state license CE rules require this updated information for license renewals so taking this course online through AR may be self-defeating if the information is not correct.

Kerrie-

Don't forget to include information on the fair housing laws in CANADA....and how theirs and ours do and do not apply to AR posts flying back and forth across the borders of people's finely tuned sensibilities.

I would not want to get in trouble here (on AR) for violating Canada's laws that apply there but don't really affect me here except when I'm here (on AR).

Please don't decide I'm taking the subject matter too far.

Because we have already taken this set of issues way to far already lately.

Kerrie - The idea of a webinar on Fair Housing is a good one.  I agree with Wallace above that state and even local laws vary from Federal law and the differences from state to state can be considerable.  As a result, no one could be considered an "expert" in Fair Housing law on a universal or national level.

At the same time, such a webinar would be a great place to give general information and to provide resources.  I agree that Fair Housing is hugely important in our industry.

I currently teach a 1-hour segment on Federal Fair Housing and Hawaii Civil Rights for Continuing Education here in Hawaii.  It is part of this years mandatory class, that is required to renew your license.  I am quite surprised how poorly agents are doing on the pre-quiz I pass out.  This is a much needed course.

I have no knowledge on Canadian laws.

This is a great idea.  We have a $100M lawsuit here against a prominant Realtor, his team, his company and his sellers here in Chicago with respect to discrimination.  Chicago Agent had a great article and more in depth and I believe that a webinar is an excellent idea.

I applaud and support this idea.  It would serve the community well.  I hope it happens.
