About The Park at West Lake
The Park at West Lake is a fairly new subdivision in southern Cary that has been extremely popular. The first item to clear up, however, is it's location. The Park at West Lake falls in Cary's jurisdiction, and the residents pay city taxes to Cary. However, the US Postal Service has not quite caught up, and they still have the mailing addresses in an Apex zip code, so the addresses are Apex. Confused now? Since their taxes go to Cary I consider it a Cary subdivision, and eventually the US Postal Service should change the addresses.
The subdivision has two pools in different parts of the subdivision, and the larger pool has a nice play area with some water slides for the kids. It's location within walking distance of West Lake Elementary School and West Lake Middle School has also contributed greatly to it's popularity.
Single family homes run the continuum from $200,000 to $600,000 range, with the majority of homes falling in the $300,000 to $500,000 range. There are no townhomes or condominiums in this community.

Location
The Park at West Lake is located in the southern part of Cary on the southern side of Optimist Farm Road on either side of West Lake Road. There are 5 grocery stores within 5 miles, and a host of different restaurant choices. The subdivision, while in Cary, is also equally close to all that Apex and Holly Springs have to offer. It's convenient to US-1 and US-401, making it easy to commute to anywhere in the Triangle.
Things to do
There's plenty to do in the area, and the proximity to Apex and Holly Springs only broadens the choices. The Bass Lake Park and Retreat Centerhas a small lake where you can rent canoes and jon boats, go fishing, hike around the lake, or enjoy a picnic. They also have a retreat center with over 2000 sq ft of deck that can be rented for meetings, parties, or family reunions.
Not too far away is the Koka Booth Amphitheaterwhich runs events ranging from Shakespearean plays to classic rock concerts to hosting the Raleigh Symphony for a summer pops series. The Amphitheater is located in Regency Park and also hosts a huge 4th of July celebration every summer.
Within 10 to 20 minutes you can also go to the movies, go ice skating, roller skating, bowling, and visit numerous parks. If you open your drive up a bit you can spend an afternoon boating on Jordan Lake, enjoy the museumsin downtown Raleigh, expand your education at one of the eight local colleges and universities, or attend a major sporting event at one of our three local ACC schools. And for hockey fans Raleigh is home to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Trends
The average price per square foot has been trending down since it's peak in 2007. While this is partially due to the current state of the housing market, there is a second contributing factor. The initial sections of The Park at West Lake that were built had much larger homes and lots than the sections built in recent years. The smaller homes and lots have correspondingly sold for less per square foot, contributing to bringing down the average. Volume of sales has been weak, following the trend in the area. Second quarter of 2010 has seen an uptick, and it will be interesting to see if that continues.
