At the base of the Spanish Peaks is the tiny town of La Veta, Colorado. The population of this little town is approx 925, but that number fluctuates in the summer. The town is not far from the Sante Fe trail, Cuchara, and sits at 7000 feet above sea level.

The Christ the King church was started in 1943 and finished being built in 1945 by the parishioners on land that had been foreclosed on and quit claimed to the church. This mission styled church is the church for about 45 families in the area.

Dena, It's an interesting church and I can tell the Mission style of it....although it looks much older then it's years.  It definitely looks much older....thanks for sharing.

The parishoners must contribute a lot to upkeep as that is not a very big base to support a large church building!  It reminds me of the churches around Taos.

So, is this an example of things you find on Land Day?  Oh, and go pack sand means the same as go pound salt or get lost or take a long walk off a short pier.  (i have some doodie pants harassing me on A.R. I finally disabled " my comments")

Carole and Joanne,  this is an interesting, yet common looking church. I thought I'd share for all the east coasters who may have never seen anything like this.

Chris, most of what we see on Land day is miles and miles of mountains, prairie, trees and animals. The church was a nice diversion. What do you think?

Dena- It's a beautiful church. I love churches in small towns. They are used and well loved. It shows you the soul of each community.

I wonder if quit claiming property to the church is something that will increase with our current housing situation.
