Is August the "Cruellest" Month?

The other day one of my neighbors stopped to chat during their daily morning walk.  They told me one of their friend's wells had gone dry and how concerned they were about our drought, how it is affecting our well water and whether there was a chance our wells could go dry too.

While August is always a slow real estate month here, it hasn't helped that many of the lawns have turned brown, all but the heartiest of flowers have died and even our beautiful trees are drooping.

Then I got a call from a prospective buyer in Wisconsin who told me about their torrential rains and flooding

The evening news had pictures of the devastation of Hurricane Dean and even the horrendous fires in Greece.

Through it all, we Realtors work despite Mother Nature's wrath yet I haven't heard any complaining on ActiveRain.  So how are all of you coping with your local crisis?  How are you in the Midwest able to sell homes with all of the flooding?  How do you in the Gulf Coast area sell homes when a hurricane is pounding it's way towards you?

One of my favorite T.S. Elliot Poems, The Wasteland, started with "April is the cruellest month" but I'm wondering if this August might be our cruelest month?
