What Gamer's Already know and REALTORS are adopting

Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty & Working The Magic, LLC

I'm just in the process of reading a book, Total Engagement: Using Games and Virtual Worlds to Change the Way People Work and Businesses Compete...

I'm reading it one because eXp Realty actually operates its Corporate Office with all staff, brokers and agents checking in throughout the business day inside the Virtual World.  I'm also looking for ideas (got a bunch of them) on how to leverage the technology that we have at our finger tips.

I read a statement in the book which resonated with me...

"Business are starting to find out what gamer communication environment feels like through an evolving technology known as unified communications.  The thrust of these products is to integrate telephony, voice mail, email, instant messaging, Web meetings and video so that business users can switch channels seamlessly.

If unified communication vendors want to show customers what that world will feel like, they should just have their customers spend an hour looking over the shoulder of a level 70 player on a raid in World of Warcraft."

Without a doubt as real estate agents and professionals we are juggling multiple channels of information.  If you are active on ActiveRain you are also no doubt active on Facebook, Twitter and its also likely that you have a Google Voice account and chat with friends and family via Skype with Video and/or Google Chat.  You probably also have a couple of IM clients open and ready for action and if you or your office is really ambitious its likely that there is some sort of online office where everyone can chat individually or in groups with screen sharing etc...

Last week Brad Andersohn posted on a product I introduced to him called Sococo which is an excellent 2D immersive unified communication platform for small teams.  We've already found it is a great addition to our other modes of communication and it increases that game like environment that we work in every day.

I have not yet tried out that sococo but did read Brad's blog post about it.  I have a moratorium going that I am not signing up for anything new for 30 days, lol.

I often have mulitple chat windows open along with email, Facebook, a couple of other social sites and AR.  And I do that while playing a level 80 character in World of Warcraft.  :)

I remember back then that agents, executives and even CEO were selling their products on virtual worlds like Second Life. Being a gamer I could say that it does help me "multi-task" but if we do like 10 things constantly doesn't that dilute our focus and not putting our full effort on each task?
