The 19th Avenue construction work goes on with light rail improvements. Visible improvements.
Wonder what is going on with the light rail construction teams on the western side of 19th Avenue? A wall is being built. It is not due to more tracks being installed. Just a 'gabion wall'. When it is finished it will be 8 feet tall and 3 feet wide. And, it will be made of stacked steel cages filled with fractured granite. How fitting for Phoenix...
The six-month project will also relocate the local frontage roads. It is all very visible to residents and drivers. The construction warnings, posts and markers are all there. Be careful.
Even though the economy is down, the City of Phoenix is still purchasing homes and businesses along the future light rail route. This is the smaller portion of the total project budget.
So, for now, it will be a one-lane each way street. Slow down and learn about 'gabion walls'.
