Everything you would ever want to know
about Canada and Canadians....

I have never had any Canadian friends, but I feel like I have many here at ActiveRain, including the following that I can think of off the top of my head:

  1. Terry Chenier
  2. Al & Peggy Cunningham
  3. Laura Cunningham
  4. Malcolm Johnston
  5. Brian Madigan
  6. Robert May
  7. Marc Swartz

Soon, like this coming Wednesday, I actually get to meet Al & Peggy Cunningham. They are coming to San Diego for a conference and to spend a couple of days touring San Diego with Russel and me.

Recently, I asked if there was anything I needed to know about Canadians. A while ago, Al and Peggy sent me a little email to help me, and I just have to share it here. I have not checked snopes.com or Wikipedia concerning any of their claims. I'll leave that to the commenters since I trust Al & Peggy. ☺

What Do We Canadians Have To Be Proud Of ?

  1. Smarties
  2. Crispy Crunch, Coffee Crisp
  3. The size of our footballs fields, one less down, and bigger balls.
  4. Baseball is Canadian - First game June 4, 1838 - Ingersoll , ON
  5. Lacrosse is Canadian
  6. Hockey is Canadian
  7. Basketball is Canadian
  8. Apple pie is Canadian
  9. Mr. Dress-up beats Mr. Rogers
  10. Tim Hortons beats Dunkin' Donuts
  11. In the war of 1812, started by America , Canadians pushed the Americans back past their White House. Then we burned it, and most of Washington .. We got bored because they ran away. Then, we came home and partied........ Go figure.
  12. Canada has the largest French population that never surrendered to Germany.
  13. We have the largest English population that never ever surrendered or withdrew during any war to anyone, anywhere. EVER. (We got clobbered in the odd battle but prevailed in ALL the wars.)
  14. Our civil war was fought in a bar and lasted a little over an hour.
  15. The only person who was arrested in our civil war was an American mercenary, he slept in and missed the whole thing.. He showed up just in time to get caught.
  16. A Canadian invented Standard Time.
  17. The Hudsons Bay Company once owned over 10% of the earth's surface and is still around as the world's oldest company.
  18. The average dog sled team can kill and devour a full grown human in under 3 minutes. (That's more information than I need!)
  19. We know what to do with the parts of a buffalo.
  20. We love San Diego!!
  21. We invented ski-doos, jet-skis, Velcro, zippers, insulin, penicillin and the telephone. Also short wave radios that save countless lives each year.
  22. We ALL have frozen our tongues to something metal and lived to tell about it.
  23. A Canadian invented Superman.
  24. We have coloured money.
  25. Our beer advertisements kick ass {Incidentally....so does our beer}
  26. The handles on our beer cases are big enough to fit your hands with mitts on.
  27. Our elections only take one day.

I think we're going to have fun!

Wow, Jim!  Little did you know when you innocently asked that question that you would get such an in-depth answer!  I'm sure they and you will have fun.

Jim, great information and I wish I had it when I was selling oceanfront real estate in Puerto Vallarta.  The majority of my clients were from Canada and I know this would have helped!  Have fun with Al & Peggy!

As a Canadian, I resemble some of those remarks above... though it was an American (from Ohio) who invented Superman while living in Toronto and first got the strip published in the Toronto Star. Walt Disney was also born in Canada, but left at too early an age to really take credit for. And the White House was named so after being white-washed as a result of being burned... so you're welcome! ;o)

Jim I'm with Carra, I really didn't know very much about Canadians. Glad you shared so many interesting facts. I know you and Russel will have a great time showing them around San Diego.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by and commenting. Comments are greatly appreciated!

I'm trying to follow up on these older posts like this one to see if anyone had any questions or if I really need to respond to anyone's comments.

I will read all the comments and respond to any that need a response, but rather than making comments here in my post to each and every one of you, I'll just let everyone know that I have read all the comments and if there are any questions, I'll answer those in comments below this one. Otherwise I'll simply post this comment and then head over to your blogs soon to visit and do some reading and commenting. I hope you'll have a nice welcome mat out for me!

Don't forget to let your cat come out to play with all the other ActiveRain kitties. Your cat-friendly dogs can come, too! At the end of the 2010, which is the Chinese Year of the Tiger, I'm going to put together a slide show or an eBook of all the ActiveRain kitties. If you see any stray cats roaming around ActiveRain, gather them up and bring them over to our forever home right here! The more the merrier!

Also, if you need a great cat book, get yourself a copy of Peg Silloway's The Cat Lover's Book of Days. It has great pictures and cat trivia, and you can use it year after year since it only has dates but not years.

Best wishes to everyone for a great Fall!
