Is this a Hoax? Now you can find out the truth!

Education & Training with Executive Director of Education at eXp Realty

 My wife and kids got really excited when I told them about the email I received, stating that on August 27th, at 12:30am, the moon and mars would look like "two moons" in the sky.  When my co-worker sent me this email, we made plans to set the alarm, go outside, and witness this once in a lifetime phenomenon.  This is going to happen tomorrow!  Here's what the email read:

*Two moons on August 27*
*Aug 27 the Whole World is waiting for...* Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.  It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.  Share this with your friends as NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again.

Naturally, who wouldn't want to miss a spectacular event like this.  As we travelled home from our weekend at the "Beach House" at Dillon Beach, we were making our plans and discussing how we would prepare and be ready to enjoy this wonderful event.  When we finally got settled back home this evening, I decided to see if this was for real or just a Hoax!

Here is a website you will want to check out, bookmark, and use for any future emails, announcements or other forms of events that you're not sure about.  It's called Snopes.com.  I have used this website on numerous occasions when I get these types of emails or hear about questionable events or ideas.  You are going to LOVE Snopes.  Every time I have used this site, it has been 100% accurate.

So will there be "Two Moons" in the sky on August 27, 2007 at 12:30am.?
  You can click here to find out.  I hope you'll add this site to your favorites as I have.  It has saved me many times from forwarding emails that could have otherwise turned into an embarrassing moment for myself and others.  I always want to provide accurate and informative information to my clients, family and friends.  Snopes.com is one of the "Best On The Web" in my opinion!

Before you forward an email to your clients or friends, or do a post, (like I almost did)be sure to check it out first, do your research, and save yourself from having to apologize for giving mis-informed information.  Is this post a Hoax?  Only Snopes will know and tell....

Here are the top 25 Myths or Urban Legends you may have seen already, or may be targeted for in the future.

No Vincent, there wasn't, but my wife did say she heard on the news that there was an eclipse.  Not sure if it was lunar or solar, but I missed it either way...

Brad, I never forward an email without checking Snopes. Sometimes I will forward the Snopes link to everyone on that has received the hoax email, but at least to the sender.  Been doing this for years....before  it was Snopes it was called Urban Legends...

Ginger - I remember that.  Seems like it was only yesterday, where has all the time gone.  I never thought about sending snopes to all the recipients of an email, just the sender. That's not a bad idea as long as it doesn't humiliate the sender or make them look bad in any way.  Thanks for the idea!  :-)

I got that same e-mail and was very excited about it too.  I thought that it was odd that the news media was all over it so I checked it out too.  Glad I did.

Funny how many people fall for that stuff.  Thanks for the link.

Kate - just goes to show how even the "Media" is wrong a big percentage of the time.  I wish they would stop trying to educate the consumers about the Real Estate market too!!  LOL!~

Well it looks like the moon and mars did have a united time lighting up the night skies but it was back a few years ago.  Looks like it had such an impact that it has carried over for the past few years.

Want to see some crazy and interesting stuff?  Snopes.com is the BEST out there for this kinda thing!! :-)

Brad my brother-in-law told me about snopes.com and it's great.  I get a lot of forwards from people and always check them out if the content just doesn't seem right.  Did you catch the lunar eclipse on the 27th?

Oh well maybe the next time it comes around you'll get to see it.  We were camping at Lake Shasta and I was going to try to stay up, but it didn't start until 2:52am or something like that and I new we had to be up early the next morning.  I was a little bummed because it was a beautiful starry night, not many street lights.  The only disturbance was the freight trains that occasionally passed us 30 yards from our site!!!!!  They neglected to mention that in the camping brochure! :o}

Sandy - sounds like Shasta was beautiful (except the train :-O)  My son lives down next to Cal Poly and the train is right outside the window, I know exactly what a train 30 yards away is like!!  We'll catch the next eclipse, maybe it will be solar so we can be awake to see it! haha  ;-)

Well the lake was  little disappointing at 75' below normal so much of it was unaccessible, but the night around the camp fire was just beautiful with the stars shining and the crickets chirping!  How does your son manage?  I couldn't sleep but my husband and boys never missed a zzzz!

Looks like it has saved lots of embarrassment.  I don't tend to forward emails anyway just because I fear exactly this situation.

Sandy - he uses ear plugs and since he has no choice because he has to attend there, the ear plugs, grades and education is enough to keep him motivated...he says the train is actually soothing to him now.  He's visiting us here at home this weekend!  No earplugs though! :-)

Yeah I'd imagine you get used to in.  In fact the campground host said she rarely hears it and we heard 12 trains in 18hrs!!! :o}
