Carlsbad ArtSplash on Saturday and Sunday September 25 and 26, 2010

Chalk artist at the Carlsbad ArtSplash in Carlsbad CA

Another popular art event is happening soon in Carlsbad.

Carlsbad ArtSplash is a 2-day outdoor arts fair held on the hill overlooking the Flower Fields and the ocean to promote the arts and raise funds to benefit art and music programs in the local community.

Sand sculpture at the Carlsbad ArtSplash in CarlsbadCarlsbad ArtSplash is probably best known for the street chalk art contest featuring dozens of talented chalk artists, along with many other artists who will create, display and sell their works of art - paintings, sculpture, jewelry and much more.

Why not be a patron of the art and advertise your business by sponsoring a chalk square

The sand sculptures are always a popular demonstration to watch and amazing in their details. Don't think these are small sand castles you build at the beach.

In addition to dancing and music demos, the Taste at ArtSplash will be held on Saturday and offer a myriad of foods to delight the palate; the charge for the Taste at ArtSplash is $20, but expect to stuff your face with delectable goodies from some of the most popular local eateries.

Carlsbad ArtSplash is open (free admission) on Saturday from 10 until 6 and on Sunday from 10 until 5 on Armada Drive off of Palomar Airport Road a short distance east of the 5 freeway.

Enjoy the slide show from 2009.

Jeff, this event should be a photographer's dream weekend!  Great photos and there is an Artwalk on Mission Bay this weekend too.  ~ Susan

Jeff-What a fantastic event this would be.  Darn it!  I"m stuck in Huntsville with these tiny little shows.  You get all the good stuff.  I need to move to your area for sure!

I would love to see the Artsplash.  If you go, enjoy and take photos for us!

Hi Jeff,

This looks like such a great event and it looks like it's really grown since the one time I was there. From viewing your video, I'd say there are some really talented folks participating.

I love events like this! You can have outdoor festivals like this for a lot longer than we can in Madison WI. Just gorgeous!

Susan - don't we live in a great area where we can have festivals like this all year?

Jane - I'll be thinking of you in SM

Jack - I have wanted to go to the Pageant since I moved here 5 years ago and have yet to do it. Embarrassing.

Pamela - the photos do NOT do justice to the finished works. Trust me. Some are truly amazing. And it takes a lot of time crouching down in the sun...hours and hours.

Elizabeth - maybe some other time? Looking forward to seeing you in New Orleans if you are there

Lynda - it does seem to be growing and the weather always seems to be ideal. And the venue with the beach in the distance is not too shabby.

Barbara - so true. We have them ALL year round. Coming from Boston, this is a treat for me.

And here on the other side of the world we have our Sand art week-end too.  I'm always amazed at what these amazing artists can create.

Jeff,

The detail gone to by some of the sand sculptors totally amazes me.
