The 11th annual Taste of Lebanon Fall Festival will be held this weekend, Sept 17, 18 & 19 at Our Lady of Lebanon Church, 8 East Mountain Rd, Waterbury Ct. Taste authentic Lebanese cuisine at the Lebanese Food Festival on the church grounds.

The two-day outdoor and indoor festival in its eleventh year will have Lebanese food, entertainment by a group of Folklore Dancers, a showing of Lebanon's traditions and customs, as well as children and family activities, like face painting, dance lessons and board games. There will also be a raffle for valuable prizes.

The festival is from Noon to Midnight Saturday, Sept. 18, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at Our Lady of Lebanon Church, 8 East Mountain Rd, Waterbury Ct

Our Lady of Lebanon is a Lebanese-Maronite church dedicated to promoting an understanding of the Lebanese culture and the Maronite faith.

Some of the dishes being served:

The vertical grill is a typical Middle Eastern barbecue.

Thin layers of beef, chicken or lamb are placed on the skewer, seasoned, and slowly rotates in front of an electric element. The juices continue to keep the meat moistened.

As the outside cooks, it is shaved off, placed into a pita bread and is combined with lettuce, tomato, and seasoned with a tahini sauce.

The Greek people call this gyro.

Ed, tell Al & Peggy that I'll vouch for them with the border police...of course they might get thrown into jail almost immediately if I do.  Anyway the Middle Eastern barbecue looks interesting it looks a little different than Gyros, but I like the idea of the way the meat is layered on the skewer.
