The Old Homestead Appreciates

Went home for a visit to the Pleasant Valley/LaGrange, New York area.  I stayed at my niece's home in Millbrook, which is an absolutely beautiful small town.  Many "stars" have estate homes here since it's only an hour and a half to NYC down the Taconic Parkway.  (Mary Tyler Moore, Liam Niesen, among others.  Not to mention the old estate of acid head Timothy Leary back in the day!!)   Anyhow, my sister and I drove past our old home on Traver Road.  In 1963, my Mom and Dad bought this 6 bedroom colonial on a small rise overlooking a lake across the street for $13,000.  We somewhat restored it as it hadn't been lived in for over 10 years.  There have been a couple of owners since.  There is now a for sale sign in the front yard, so, of course, we called to ask the price:  $529,900.    That means over the 34 years, it appreciated $15,203 per year for a total appreciation of $516,900.   All I know is, "I can't go home again!"    Enjoy.

"Can't go home again" - I hear you!  The waterfront home where I spent my childhood has changed hands several times since my parents sold it for $19,000.  It would be at least $1M by now.
