On our way back from lunch in Julian we stopped by Camp Cuyamaca in Descanso. Camp Cuyamaca is where every sixth grader in San Diego public schools is provided the opportunity to spend a week under the leadership of trained camp counselors and their classroom teachers. It is an opportunity for the students to explore the outdoors and is truly an adventure away from their families (many for the first time) and is a great learning experience in nature.
My children and husband attended Camp Cuyamaca, as did thousands of San Diego sixth graders, over the past 60 years of the program. Everyone loved the experience of being away from home, sharing a cabin with their friends and experiencing nature through hikes, craft activities and evening programs.
When we stopped by on our drive home, my daughter was reminded of the cabins, the funny adventures she shared with her friends, the hands-on crafts she made and ....the posted warnings of Mountain Lions in the area. Sure glad I didn't know about those warnings when I let her go! Seriously, what an incredible adventure for your children to experience and lifelong memories at sixth grade camp!
