To Delete or Not to Delete your OLD BLOGS

By
Real Estate Agent with Heather Roda Broker

Whats the etiquette for deleting your blogs? Are old blogs about listings to be deleted? Or should they be left for potential clients and referrals to see your work at hand? I would love feedback on how other agents are handling their own blogs.

People are saying: its best to keep them all. It might be good to add a Sold note to the comments of the sold listings with a comment of others available in the area. There you have it! What do you think?

I am curious about this too. I had planned to leave mine posted as a referral/potential client tool, but am unsure if this goes against blogging etiquette.

Our vote is to leave them on -- and make a notation that they are sold -- you still get the placement in search engines -- and to remove them will kill the search engine placement ---- our 2 cents.

Great question I've never even thought about.  Wish more people would respond!

My thought was it would help with my referral/client base, but I'm cautious about it. Hoping some of the bloggers who have been doing this many years (10+) will have input!

Don't delete your old blogs and listings. They are still on the internet and may bring inquires. This is especially true for anything that includes a property address. Many prospects Google addresses as part of their home search and you want them to find you.

Yeah I agree with Roy, just in terms of SEO and bringing inquiries, you would never want to delete blogs and therefore "pages on your site" that have strong ranking becuase they've been around a while. Any page linking to your site and mentioning your name, is your friend :)

Its looking like its best to keep them all. It might be good to add a Sold note to the comments of the sold listings with a comment of others available in the area. I thought ActiveRain might have some rules on what needs to be deleted too but so far no feedback on that.

I don't think there are any AR rules, just best practices, which to me are to keep them and add a sold note when they're gone. So, to sum up, I have nothing new to add =).

Lisa,

Great Post. Lots of great comments.  I recommend keeping them up, because you never know when some is looking for agent that has listed or sold a home in their neighborhood and they could possibly pull up your blog with a sold listing.

Thanks for sharing,

Matt Naumann

Lisa,

Glad you brought it up.  I never gave it a thought. Blog posts are set up different than Facebook but with Facebook I attempted to remove notes and although I couldn't see them anymore others still do.

Lisa, I know that points aren't supposed to be a huge deal with us, but I will say that if you delete a post, you'll delete all the points that are associated with it.  Some of the reasons above me are much better reasons to keep your old posts, but in case you needed another, there you go!!
