Make sure you're not breaking the rules! Don't advertise in comments!
Anna's recent post takes a simple infraction to make the point about breaking the rules here on AR. Thanks Anna.
I'm one of those people who will exploit the rules to the fullest to gain an advantage for my clients. I don't cross the line either, although I know I have, but certainly not deliberately.
I believe those who flagrantly break the rules in our industry are the main reason we will continue to have difficulty elevating the professional reputation of REALTORS® in the eye of the public. What are your thoughts on this?
Make sure you're not breaking the rules! Don't advertise in comments!
Quite frankly, I don’t know too many people who bother really reading directions anymore. A lot of people believe they’ll understand something once they see it.
And as for this blogging stuff, psh, come on – easy! You type words into a box, slap a title and some photos on that piece of art & bam! You’ve got a blog.
But, it may come to a lot people’s surprise that there are rules within this world of ActiveRain. If there weren’t & the site wasn’t structured the way it is, our blogs would have definitely been infiltrated by predators & spammers.
But wait. People are technically spamming on ActiveRain?! The horror!
It’s true. You may know of these people, too. They seem harmless…nice…people with good intentions…but what didn’t they do? Read the rules and regs!
This isn’t meant to lecture or blame anyone in particular, but to reiterate one ActiveRain rule in particular: Do not advertise yourself or your services in the comment section of another members blog post.
It’s technically spamming, and in all honesty, no one likes to see it in the comments section of their blog. Why advertise yourself on someone else’s blog? Do I need to slap someone across the hand with a ruler?
There really is no need to attach links to your websites or ways of contacting you right after your comment. In fact, that’s why your name and business is always located at the very bottom of your comment box in grey font. It’s also a hyperlink so you don’t have to attach any of that information advertising your services and contact methods.
I never thought you could advertise TOO MUCH, but in this case, you can. So let’s all remember the rules and respect one another’s blogs / comment sections. It’ll make the ActiveRain world that much more peaceful. :)
