The other day while reading my Inman News email. I came across a wonderful article by Bernice Ross, It was called 8 Legendary Real Estate Lessons. The email was in my box on 9/20/2010, and it was 8 practical lessons that Bernice had learned from her friend and mentor, Jon "Jack" Douglass. I am not going to copy and paste a link in this blog. I just wanted to comment on one of the lessons that really was an "ah ha" moment for me.
It was the fifth of the 8 lessons that she wrote, Play to Your Strengths. What a great concept, I think that I, like many of us work so hard to overcome our weaknesses that we forget to play to our strengths. How many of you are like me and hate to make prospecting phone calls? I, however love meeting people face to face. So instead of focussing my prospecting efforts on calls, which I hate, I should probably knock doors or host open houses.
I am not say to give up doing the calling, rather to supplement my other activities by making phone calls. What I am getting at, is that as realtors, we need to find our strengths, and exploit them! We should continue to educate ourselves to get better at all of our efforts, but rather than subordinate our strengths in the pursuit of correcting our weaknesses, we need to use our strengths while we spend some time to overcome those weaknesses. What do you think?
