Oregon’s history: Not that old when you think about the United States

By

When you look at Oregon there is a lot of history here with the Lewis and Clark and the Oregon Trail, but really, that wasn’t that long ago in the history of the United States. When you look back at Oregon, we didn’t even become a state until 1859 and many of our pioneer cemeteries weren’t even established until the late 1800s.

But, what Oregon does still have is a lot of that pioneer spirit. We are always looking for new adventures, new ways to get ourselves out there. Rock climbing, Geocaching, hiking, running, kayaking and white water rafting are just some of the things we do to get out there and get our blood flowing.

Multnomah Falls

Plus, we also have fishing, bird watching, and other ways to just sit back and enjoy what Mother Nature has given us. Though we may not have as much history as the east coast, what we do have we certainly will continue to build our history with and we invite you to find out why so many people risked their lives on the Oregon Trail to come here.

Those are great pictures Todd - & even though both our states are newer, the wealth of possible outdoor activities in our beautiful states is amazing!  If I didn't love Washington so much, Oregon would be my other favorite place to live :)

Todd,

When you put it in perspective like that, it makes a difference. Nice of them to put up a sign for the travelers at the end of the trail. :)

I think of it often... how long ago it seems when Oregon and Washington were territories... then I think about how old I am (I don't go back that far!) but, 1894 wasn't that long ago. Then I think about my grandparents coming over from Europe arriving here in 1902, 1912 etc. It boggles my mind to think they were here that early in the scheme of things, and I knew them... Great pics by the way! (as always)...

It really is amazing how much we have changed her on the west coast. We were pioneers, tough and put up with nothing, now well, can't say that anymore.
