Maui: Thinking about relocating to Maui?

Aloooooha!

If you are thinking about relocating to Maui...you are in the right place.  I made the move just over 5 years ago and love it here.  However, there are some things you want to know before taking such a leap of faith...such as:

  • What are the differences between the South Maui, West Maui, Central Maui, Hana and Up Country?
  • What are the housing costs - Rent vs Purchase
  • What are the options for your child to get a good education?

What about food, utilities, activities, moving costs, etc.?  Yes there is quite a list.  It took us more than a year to make the move, and when we did it was an 8 month trial move.

If you are serious about moving to Maui...
Call or email me and I'll be more than happy to share the process we went through, challenges we overcame, how we prepared to make the move permanent.

Island life isn't for everyone...but for those who like a slower pace, small town feel and love the water you and your family will be blessed to live here...even if it's for a few years.

Aloha and a hui ho.

Endre,

I was born and raised in Eugene Oregon.  When my dad merged his music company with another in Washington State...we relocated to Bellevue, Washington...that was in 1976.  I lived there until 2005 when my wife and son moved to Maui.

Washington State didn't make the list.  However, in Bellevue Washington the sales tax is 9.1% (it was when we left).  Yikes!

Aloha.

Hello,

I am making the move to Maui, Hawaii....I want to know you're opinion. Your struggles and your comments on the move. I will be leaving in September sometime.  I have 3 children and I am a single mom.  I'm saving money like crazy and selling my things.  We are from Idaho and need a change. We do have family friends that live in Kihei, Maui so we wont be heading over blindfolded.  Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks,

Sarah,

Feel free to contact me by email - jeffgraves (at) clearwire (dot) net.  The move can be terrific or painful.  We moved here almost 7 years ago from Bellevue Washington, we live in Kihei.  We moved with 3 suitcases and 6 boxes.

The biggest struggles people have here are:

1. Getting a job

2. Feeling isolated

3. Lack of things to do - you have got to enjoy the beach or the water, in my opinion, to make it here more than 2 years.  My wife struggled with this until she took up outrigger paddling - she's 51.  I didn't have a problem with this, and frankly don't need to leave the island (some get island fever) because I surf and body board several times a month.

Advantages:

1. People aren't so concerned about what you do for a living or how much you make, very much the opposite of where i moved from.

2. The weather is always nice...so you can plan parties outdoors and don't have to have a plan B

3. Slower pace for most.  However, some have to have two jobs to make ends meet.

Like I said feel free to contact me if you want to talk or email.

Aloha,

Jeff
