No Commission Check? What were you doing 90 days ago?

All too often I see agents not treat their business AS a business. We are business owners, each and every one of us. We are independent contractors. Our future is in OUR own hands. I don't care if you work for the crappiest firm in town...if you want it, you can have it. Period.
Set a schedule for yourself and work IN your business and on it.
The other day Kristen Wheatley wrote a post An Appointment a Day Keeps the Bill Collectors Away. Reading her post reminded me of a quote I had on my desk at my old broker's office which I somehow misplaced with my move. I even commented to her post as such and tonight I found it......
"Every day you avoid doing profit-seeking activities, you will NOT receive a paycheck 90 days from now"
There is so much truth to that sentence. Most of us do this full time, its our business, its our life, its our income. With that being said, we are only human and sometimes we get sidetracked with other things in life and then it hits you.
The bills, the birthday gifts, the holidays are coming, the mortgage is due, etc. Where am I going to get this money? How did this happen??????
Think back to what you were doing 3 months ago? Were you prospecting? Were you doing profit-seeking activities? Or were you spending your last check, maybe taking it easy?? So now you are scurrying around, calling old prospects, your sphere, old clients, etc. and low and behold you have a contract pending. Problem is the deal won't close in time for you to have the money you needed. However, if 90 days ago, you were focusing on profit-seeking activities, you may just have received that commission check in time.
You look at your friends and think how easy they have it since they were a 9-5 job and get paid every Friday. They get paid every Friday because they worked the week before and are entitled to get paid!
Sure we all have our lives to live and nobody can expect us except, of course, our buyers and sellers to do this 24/7 but if every day you avoid doing profit-seeking activities, how do you expect to receive a commission check in 30, 60, 90 or even 120 days from now??
If you WORK, you get PAID -- that's just how it goes...........
