Real Estate Market - Glass Half-Empty or Half-Full?

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Headwaters Realty

Mules on Old Chimney Mountain Road in Batesville GeorgiaAs a REALTOR, I am frequently asked the question these days: “How’s the real estate market?”

REALTORs are in a precarious position when asked about the condition of our local real estate market. After all, REALTORs are salespeople. For the most part, REALTORs are paid on commission. REALTORs get paid for their work  only when they bring a buyer and seller together and “close the deal”.

If the REALTOR is working for a Buyer, then there is plenty of home inventory to choose from at a great price, and loans are available at historically low interest rates. Lately the glass is more than half-full. It’s running over.

Conversely, if a REALTOR represents a seller with a property listing who, despite market conditions cannot or will not lower the price of their property to sell it, then the glass is well under half-empty . . . maybe even bone dry.

So the next time you ask a REALTOR “how’s the market”, what they say may depend on which side of the aisle the REALTOR is working on . . . at any given moment.

If your REALTOR seems a little dysfunctional or even schizophrenic lately, know that it’s perfectly normal behavior for them in these abnormal times.

Always half-full, Dale. That's the only way to be, IMHO.

Great post.

To stay ahead in this market, we have to rely on "FME" . . . focus, motivation, & execution . . . and a big dose of optimism. Thanks for your comment. Dale
