Tales From The Flip: A Closer Look

By
Home Inspector with JRV Home Inspection Services, LLC HOI 394

Since the picture I posted from yesterdays blog was a bit small and a long shot, I thought I would post some close ups of the fine examples of plumbing work. Bad splice

This is the main waste pipe leaving the home. Nice reduction. If your asking where's the clean out, it can be found much further up the line.

Tee in

Just above the first picture is this tee in from the first floor bathroom and laundry.

A plumbing mess

That's the 2 inch waste line form yesterdays picture. When I said it needed a hanger I was wrong. As you can see some installed one and forgot to attach it to the joist. There is a vent stack behind that insulation.

All in all a pretty sorry excuse for plumbing work.

And it looks like that previously unseen hanger is a cut extension cord.  Is that what it is?

Steve, Yes, I see a lack of pride in much of the workmanship.

Charlie, The pot calling the kettle black :)

Michael, Wise???

Jay, I thought the picture was large enough to display the "hanger" clearly. That is a coat hanger not a pipe hanger, but a hanger by any other name...

James,

I was pleased and surprised to see you being so participatory in the new Wheatloaf Road film.

It just goes to point out the value of having a careful home inspection undertaken before the conditions are waived.

I noticed the "reduction" in yesterday's post... but wasn't sure if that was proper or not, so didn't mention it.

James the plumber wasn't there to get it done right, just to get it done. Fixing it will be somebody else's problem, but that will be after it's been sold.

James,

Unfortunately, one DOES NOT have to look long and hard to find matching quality work.

Steve, I have no idea what you're talking about and if I did it wasn't me.

Brian, Exactly.

Jay, Careful you don't want to insult the good schmucks :)

Alan, You're a realtor, I would understand if you made a misdiagnosis. :) You however obviously would have been correct.

Ed, I belive it will be before or there will be no sale to my client. This was just one of many issues.

Steve,  It would seem so.
