Pets90210's Quarterly Pet Adoption was a Raving Success!

The Place:  Roxbury Park's Wiggly Field at 471 South Roxbury Dr & Olympic Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA90210

The stars:   The critters needing to get adopted

The supporting cast: the volunteer of Pets90210 and their leader Bill Crowe

This past Saturday from 11:00am to 3:00pm, in the sweltering heat of a late September heat wave of 86 degrees, the animals and volunteers were waiting with apprehension. They were all hoping on the kindness, caring and goodness of the humans who drove by or walked by the tent and looked at these wonderful animals waiting for a forever home.

I was taking pictures and silently hoping for the adoption of these wonderful creatures. As I was looking at the critters it reminded me of the John Irving novel and the movie by the same name: The Cider House Rules, as the children looked anxiously at potential adopters and put their best game face on at the orphanage.

This adoption event was a Raving success; over 50% of the pets were saved.

Endre,

Glad it went well.  We "accidentally" adopted 10 cats over the last few years, benefit of living on a dead end country road just off the highway.  A couple of dumpings of moms and their babies.  No kills are always full, and the SPCA was an automatic gas chamber date...couldn't let that happen, so know they own the garage!

Pets are great, especially in a poor economy where you don't have money to go out to eat all the time. They'll sit there and watch you cook. Or maybe they are begging for food. Anyways.........

Bill & Liz, so funny you should say that, we live on the ground floor of a large resort style complex and there are some people who have no care for their pets....long story short there was this little guy knocking on the patio door to be let it. So we now have three:))

Russell we are about one and a half hours from La Jolla, it is about 20-30 minutes from San Diego. What days are you visiting???. My week is crazy but maybe we could work something out for lunch or coffee at the minimum...

Hey that was a success! What happens to the rest of the little darlings who weren't adopted? It's a shame that some choose to have pets but can't treat them right. Glad these got to have owners who really feel for them!

Will, it is hard to say this....when the Shelters fill up they start to euthanize the ones that have been there the longest, we are not talking months, rather  ashorter span. So generally this is their last opportunity to be saved.....

Oh My God! Really? Do they? Can they do that? But why? I'm just so angry and sad at the same time. Can't they be given another chance or any other way? These creatures do serve a purpose in life too...

Hey Endre, thanks for the invite, though I am here for a wedding and family reunion, it appears that all my time is taken. Naturally I  thought of when I heard we were headed this way! Maybe next time!

Will this is one of the main reason Rescue Groups exist, they take unwanted animals from the shelters to prevent them from the "final solution" As you know I contribute from all my commissions to Rescue Groups since many of the critters take a long time to get addopted. Hence there are costs involved.

Russell too bad we could not get together, next time we will have to plan it further in  advance. How often do you have Family Reunions this part of the world?

Freida, I find that these animals know you saved them and are more affectionate and grateful to their saviors. I congratulate you for saving two.
