Something occurred to me yesterday. Not really sure why it hit me like a bolt of lightning, but it did.
When did buying a home become so arduous? When did it become such a chore? We're not having fun, why?
I remember working with buyers when we had FUN! We were a TEAM, and we were on a mission! It was about the search, the hunt -- the thrill of finding THE ONE!
We'd see some duds, and laugh. Some of the wallpaper I've seen! Some of the "artwork"? Oh, boy! And what was with the one that had the toilet IN the bedroom? Talk about your home renovation gone bad!
We'd come across a difficult or odd Agent or Seller, and laugh. The seller that met us at the door in a towel? Or the one that had more birds than we could count and they ALL talked? Whew, that was an interesting showing!
I know that the home-buying process is more time and labor intensive than in the past. And the hoops buyers are having to jump through in the loan process can try the patience of even the saintliest of us.
But why aren't we having FUN? We're looking for a HOME; a place of respite, a place to make memories and build a life. These are good things! Shouldn't the search for this place be FUN? Shouldn't we be laughing more and griping less?
I'm not sure if it's that Buyers are overwhelmed, or if Agent's are just jaded. Maybe it's simply a sign of the times.
All I know? I want it to be fun again. I want more laughs along the way, and fewer headaches. I want the Buyers I'm working with to have FUN and remember the search as a good time. I want to spend my time with Buyers enjoying the hunt and celebrating the victory of finding them THE ONE!
Buying a home is a serious transaction, and it should be treated with respect and professionalism. But it's not something to dread! It should be FUN, it should be EXCITING, it should be something to ENJOY, not just to get through. We, Agents and Buyers, should be whistling while we work, not grousing about it!
Let's get out there and have some FUN! There are some GREAT buys to be had -- let's find THE ONE for you and your family. I promise, we'll have FUN along the way, and you'll be smiling when you move into your new home!
