186th Quinte Exhibition Starts Today.

By
Industry Observer

The Quinte area has been settled for over 200 years and  Belleville  was one of the first formal towns in the region. Agriculture has always played a very important role in the lush regions along the northern shore of Lake Ontario, and this area is no exception.

Along with the agricultural community, came organized competitions and social gatherings at harvest time. The tradition continues today with this being the 186th continuously running year for the Quinte Agricultural Fair and Exhibition.  Only the name has changed. It is now called the Quinte Exhibition and the exhibits now include such things as stock car demolition derbies and modern circus rides.

The 186th Quinte Exhibition begins today at noon.  Here is a link to the complete schedule for the 5 day fair.

JO, It looks like a wonderful event, something I would love.  I went to do a post on a similar upcoming fair (I know, I think we "catch" each other's thoughts) but couldn't upload my pictures :(  Still trying to work on it.  I hope you get to go to this and have a great time.

Carole, Great minds think alike, and Intuitive Great minds think even more alike !!  (((-:

Seriously, it is that time of year, so I imagine a lot of 'fall fair' type posts will be surfacing on localism. I enjoy reading about the various fall fairs...the small village ones are so intriguing....which reminds me of some coming up here soon...more fairs to blog about !!

I hope you get pictures uploaded...I'm looking forward to reading your post !

Barbara-Jo,

It must be quite the event !  In Ontario the biggest fair is the Canadian National Exhibition held every year in Toronto. I used to attend it every year when I was a child with my parents.  The draft horses always fascinated me (and one day when I was an adult, I bought my own Belgian stallion. His name was Jim.)

It's great that children can go to these fairs and  farm tours and glimpse that part of life.  With modern technology most kids are so separated from their roots and from nature and  it's quite sad.
