Long before the term roots music described the gumbo of American genres, the Washington, D.C.-based Nighthawks were mixing blues, rock and soul-along with rockabilly and swing. The Nighthawks, collectively and individually, cut their eye teeth on late-1950s blues and primal rock 'n' roll. For more than 30 years The Nighthawks' juke joint spirit, freight-train rhythms and nuanced harp work have entertained audiences around the world. Along the way they backed Blues and Rock legends Muddy Waters, BB King, Carl Perkins, Gregg Allman, John Lee Hooker, and more.
The Nighthawks have released over 20 albums and still play over 200 shows a year. In 2009 the band won best duo/group and best recording, for 2009's American Landscape.
