Decorating/Home Staging Class, Flowery Branch, GA - Week 8

I am finding it hard to believe that this Wednesday night is the final session for our Decorating/Homefloor plan and color palette Staging class taught at Blackshear Place Baptist Church.  What a great time we've had!  Here's a recap of where we've been:

  • Week 1 - Introduction
  • Week 2 - Home Staging(checking air quality, decluttering, cleaning, assessing each room for staging, rearranging furniture, case studies)
  • Week 3 - Color (hue, value, temperature, intensity, the color wheel, using various color schemes)
  • Week 4 - Decorating Styles (country, traditional/formal, eclectic, casual, contemporary, and variations thereof)
  • Week 5 - Elements of Design (line, form, space, light, pattern, texture)
  • Week 6 - Principles of Design (balance, proportion, scale, unity, emphasis)
  • Week 7 - Decorating Trends of the Day: What's Hot, What's Not

In addition flowers in vase on striped backgroundto following our instructional outline each week, we've also analyzed many photographs to see what works and why, discussed decorating dilemmas our class members have had and what to do about them, and have embarked on our own decorating projects.  This week we will wrap things up by answering any additional questions and completing our projects which involve the following:

  1. Selecting a room from a house plan and drawing it to scale on a sheet of graft paper
  2. Determining the decorating style of the room
  3. Choosing a color scheme and finding appropriate color strips
  4. Finding fabric which incorporates the color scheme
  5. Drawing in appropriate furniture
  6. Adding lighting and accessories

Please join us this Wednesday night for our final session on Decorating and Home Staging.  Here are the particulars:

  • Wednesday night, September 29 at 6:30pm.  (Greeters at the door will direct you to the room.)
  • Blackshear Place Baptist Church, 3428 Atlanta Hwy., Flowery Branch, GA  30542
  • 770-534-7058 or www.bpbc.com

Andrea - Can't you move closer to Atlanta?  It was fun.

Shar - It was great fun, but a LOT of work.  Next time will be much easier.

Susan - Thank you!  It was great.

Kathy - Thanks!  I'm thinking about approaching the local library to see if they're interested.  It was fun.

Patsy...love it!  I imagine that the participants, in your class, were hanging on your every word and had some real ah-ha moments.  I love teaching these classes and wish that there was more interest locally!

Thanks, Ginger.  My students are so much fun!  I don't know about "hanging on to every word," but I think they learned a few things.

Barbara - thank you.  Boo, hoo.  It's all over now.  We had a great time last night and the ladies are crying for more.  Maybe in January when I've had a chance to recover from this one?

Cathy - thank you!  It was great fun.  I will miss the ladies but not the hours it took to prepare for the class.  Time to get back to earning a living!

Hi Patsy, Sorry it took me so long to get over here, but I just wanted to say thank you for posting this!  It looks so interesting!  Do approach the local libraries!  Did you know they pay their speakers.  A stager in another town was telling me all about how she does one on "What is staging" and one on "Organizing Rummage Sales".  I will be contacting mine tomorrow!  Love to hear how yours goes!

Patricia - will do!

Cynthia - please come back!  You could help me teach the next go 'round.

Laura - yes, I've heard that about the library gigs.  Will contact them again as soon as I get a few more things off my plate.  Thanks for the encouragement!

Dawn - girl, where have you been?  I look forward to seeing you soon!

Patsy - love this idea!  What lucky students you have!  Now that you have your lessons finished, have you thought about proposing the idea to your local college or adult education center.  With all of the time and effort you have put in - you should make it into a money making idea!  You are so talented - I wish I could have been there!

Hi Sheila.  Thanks for your encouraging words!  Yes, I have thought about contacting the library.  A community college is another good idea.  It was too much work putting it together not to be able to teach it again.

Hi Josh.  Thanks!

Linda - thank you!  I was asked last week at church if I could teach it again after the first of the year, so it looks like we'll be doing it all over again.  It was great fun.
