I always look forward to the Tempe Oktoberfest! Like years past, there will be games for the kids, plenty of live music to suit many tastes, and of course, BEER.
For many of us living in Tempe, this event is one that we look forward to each year. Local bands, local businesses and thousands of people come out to have some fun in the sun.
Held at the northern end of the Mill Avenue District, this year’s Oktoberfest will be three days jam packed full of activities beginning Friday, October 1st – Sunday October 3rd. One of the best parts? Admission to the Tempe Oktoberfest is FREE.
Where: Tempe Beach Park
When: Friday 5pm – Midnight. Saturday 10am – Midnight. Sunday 10am – 6pm
Last year, my kids had a blast at the craft fair, running wild through the park and jumping on all of the cool “bouncy things.” The Tempe Oktoberfest even has a Kinderfest which is a bunch of fun kid stuff with a craft zone, carnival rides, climbing wall and MORE.
Some of the other cool things you will find at Tempe Oktoberfest are:
Beer Gardens: ( 9 Beer Gardens on Saturday night, 3 more than last year )
Live Bands: ( Mogollon, Keltic Cowboys, Furious George & more! )
German Food:
Polka Stage:
Bavarian Bakery:
Of course, riding the light rail to the Tempe Oktoberfest is probably going to be the easiest way to get to and from the fun. If you are like us, it is another “fun” way to get the kids to and from the event. Kids love to ride the train… There is a light rail station at Mill Avenue which drops you off just south of Tempe Beach Park. Many people traveling to the Tempe Oktoberfest will use a Park and Ride lot and then travel to Mill Avenue. Below is a map showing the METRO light rail line along with the stations and park and ride locations. Oh, the little green icons? Yep, they are a few of the neighborhoods along the light rail line that you might think are cool, too. :)

If taking light rail to the Tempe Oktoberfest you can park at the Park and Ride lots for FREE, but a round trip pass will cost you $3.50. Kids 5 and under ride free. You can purchase a light rail pass at any light rail station. You can also visit the METRO site for fare options.
