Google Called Me... I Think... IS THIS A SCAM ?!?!

Yesterday my partner Devona received a strange phone call from an individual claiming to be from "Google", and wanted to "confirm some details of our Google Places listing. The call seemed odd, so she instructed the caller to contact me because I handle our online marketing.

After she hung up the phone, we discussed the call and concluded it was a scam, particularly because the phone number was international. By the way the number that called us is: 91-406-619-4240.

So today he calls me and attempts to retrieve information as well. I tell him I will be more than happy to contact Google back from a confirmed phone number because I did not feel comfortable giving info to an unknown caller. He stumbled, and did not understand why I would not talk to him, and we said goodbye.

Does anyone else know anything about this? Is this a scam, or did I just blow off Google, and possibly hurt any ranking my business listing has with Google?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Google doesn't call anyone, they use email.

It's a scam.

I don't care who calls me; they are not getting any information over the phone and they are not selling me anything over the phone. If they got my phone number, then they have my email address and snail mail address, too, so they are welcome to send me something. I'll look over it, and if I'm interested, I'll contact them. Rarely do I get any email or snail mail. Hmmm.

I got a similar call yesterday.  The lady asked to verify my mailing address.  I told her that I was in a meeting, offering to call her back.  The caller said that she would try me later but never called again.  Sad that there's so many people out there trying to scam others.

Actually, it is not a scam.  We have multiple offices around the world working diligently to make sure every part of the online business model is accurate.  If the person didn't ask for personal information.. why blow him off?  To clarify, it wasn't me who called.  We run into this often though.  We try to verify the business information with the website, when something can NOT be verified on the site, we HAVE to call. Because you blew him off, the only way to ensure your business places page is accurate would be to do it yourself now.  As it's marked unverifiable in our database now.

Have a friend who received a call from Google.  My friend made his first mistake when he gave out ANY INFORMATION over the phone.  They were selling him adwords.  These adwords would appear for his search at his office computer and NO WHERE ELSE.  They took $800 from him and disappeared without a trace.

I received a call from "google" today; they wanted to confirm my email - which I would not. The guy persisted and I finally told him I was disconnecting the call as I did not believe this was valid call. He then said this was a legal matter - I hung up
