What's wrong with these MLS photos?

Home Stager with Great Impressions Home Staging/Interiors

Here are 2 more examples of unflattering photos I stumbled across on the MLS -- and sadly, most of the photos I see on-line don't do their houses justice -- that clearly would benefit from simple staging: Lose the balloons, the little doo-dads above the cabinets, all the photos on the fridge, the photo and electronics on the end table, and most of the clutter on the counters. Get rid of the 2nd layer of curtains -- depending on the view -- and swap out the leopard print pillows for something more sophisticated and less taste-specific, like ivory and beige-patterned pillows. The chairs need to be pushed under the lip of the counter and straightened out as well. I'd then add a trio of tall candle pillars or a tropical plant to the end table, since this is a Florida house.

Perfect example of a completely dull space! Two easy fixes that would make this room look much better: 1) Paint the fireplace wall a warm contrasting beige that coordinates with the carpet, assuming the carpet has to stay and there are no hardwood floors underneath.  2) Add a tree or plant or large vase with tall colorful flowers or branches to the left side of the fireplace.  3) Add a nature painting/print or a mirror or sculptural metal work above the fireplace. Voila! The whole fireplace wall would now become an attractive focal point.

Any other ideas? I'd love to hear!

 "Great Impressions Get Offers"

Presentation and price are critical to selling houses quickly. You and your agent figure out the best price; I make your home stand out from the competition to appeal to the most buyers, whether they are first-time buyers, move-up buyers, or down-sizing buyers. As an accredited, experienced staging professional, I know how to make your home grab buyers' attention -- on the MLS and in person. A beautifully presented house makes a great impression, stands out from the competition, and generates offers faster than a non-staged house!

I agree informally staging your home is important.  Sellers need to try to look at their homes as if they were going to buy it.

I'm assuming comment by jasonleen is a spam or something that went wrong.

The second photo looks like bank owned property where listing agent has to share their side of the deal with one or more partners which doesnt leave much money for staging.  Asset Managers will not pay for staging unless its very special case which this house doesnt look like.

Yes, Andrzej, I just reported that comment to AR. That's a new one to me, and I'm guessing it is spam?

Thanks for the info on bank asset managers -- I once tried to get a list of bank foreclosure managers and found there weren't any, but I'm guessing you're right, that they're not willing to pay for staging or probably even more importantly renovations and painting, new carpeting?

Margaret -- Thanks for your comment. If you read this, can you clarify what you mean by "informally" staging? I totally agree buyers need to look at their homes as if they were going to buy it -- exactly the idea behind staging and making repairs.

Some pictures amaze me - i just recently saw one of a bedroom where there were folded t-shirts and underwear on the bed as if they just finished the laundry and had not put the items away.  I can't believe that the agent actually took the picture and then placed it in the MLS.

Rick -- Yep, I've heard of ones far worse than that, but I'd be too embarrassed to even tell you! And toilet seats up along with toilet brushes, ugh . . .
