Fall LeavesIt's that time of year again - the leaves are starting to turn, the air is crisp  ... it's fall again.  Get your rakes out and get those leaves off your lawn! ...

and Halloween is just around the corner.

Here are some ideas, suggestions and tips for Halloween.

Carving Pumpkins - this is an all time favorite for children of all ages.  This link will take you to information on how to carve a pumpkin plus has ideas and suggestions for designs for your pumpkin:  http://www.pumpkincarving101.com/pumpkin_carving_stencils.html

After you've cleaned out the pumpkins - what to do with all of those pumpkin sees?  Don't throw them away - make Roasted Pumpkin Seeds!

Pumpkins

  • 2 cups pumpkin seeds (with the pulp and strings removed
  • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Rinse the seeds in cold water (removing any excess pumpkin), lay on a paper towel to dry, patting to remove excess water.  In large bowl, mix seeds, oil and salt.  Stir to coat well. Spread on a cookie or baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Pumpkin Facial - Don't trash your Jack-o-Lantern, make it into a facial.  Pumpkins are high is vitamins and antioxidants, as well as alphahydroxy acids that remove dead cells and nourish the skin.  Just mix a few tablespoons of pureed pumpkin with a half teaspoon of honey and a half teaspoon of milk.  Smooth on your face.  Allow the mixture to dry, then wash off with a washcloth and warm water.  You can also make the pumpkin mixture into a facial scrub by adding a little brown sugar to your mixture.  Sounds delicious and will make your face glow.

Keep your little spooks and gobblins safe this Halloween.  Always check their candy and make sure they are visible to drivers.

I love the fall season - it has to be one of the most beautiful times of the year.  I try to get out to the mountains to see the leaves!  Halloween is a special one for me - it's my birthday and I fondly remember Halloween as a child.  It's a fun time for kids.
