HOMECOMING MEMORIES!

HOMECOMING MEMORIES!  The season is upon us - the high school homecoming game, dances, mums, hoopla!  Homecoming has changed dramatically from when I was high school in the late seventies!  It was simple back then, got a date, got a "real" mum that maybe cost about $10 and went to the game.

Today, there are limos, $200+ mums, homecoming dances at fancy places, expensive dresses &  suits to wear to those dances and the high-dollar meal!  OMG!  Where are these kids getting all of this money?  Oh yeah, Mom and Dad!

Anyway, back to my homecoming memories.  I went to a small Texas high school.  My graduating class was around 100.  Homecoming was very traditional and we always had a lot of fun because it was simple and not complicated!

Of of my favorite memories was of one of our twirlers!  She was known for her "into the moment" performances.  As she was in her moment right in front of the break-through sign for the football team, she did not hear us yelling at her that the team was coming through.

The next thing we witnessed was this pretty, perky girl splayed out in the middle of the football field.  Grass in her hair, dirt on her uniform and that real mum?  Just a yellow smudge on the field!

I felt badly for her yet over the years have thought about that moment and have laughed out loud.  Not being a mean person, I would be laughing had it happened to me too!

What are your homecoming memories?

Paula, Great memories indeed. Interesting about the rising cost of everything involved. I'll guarantee they're not having any more fun today than we did back in the day.

Class of '75 here.

Paula,

Great memories also.  And the times were more innocent, in terms of less materialism and less propensity to get in trouble... g

So true Gordon about the materialism.  How did we as parents get to this point?
