Is Your Home Ready For Winter?

Living in Indianapolis, Indiana we will experience some cold winter days.  Before they hit, now is the time to make sure your home is ready.  Here's some helpful ideas to prepare your home.

  1. Check windows and rechaulk any broken seals
  2. Drain garden hoses and store away for winter.
  3. Check foundation for cracks.
  4. Clean the outside of the house.  Remove any algae and dirt that may have built up during the warmer weather.
  5. Remove debris from gutters and in the yard.  Cleaning it up now will be much easier than when it is weighted down from being wet and then frozen.
  6. Have your heating systems serviced and change the filters regularly.  If items located internally need repair, call a service technician to be safe.

Doing these things will protect your home from water and animal intrutions this winter.  If you leave your home unattended during the winter months, it's suggested that you have the home winterized while you are gone.  This will protect your plumbing systems and keep you from coming home to a watery mess should the heat fail or a pipe bust.
