MySpace is great, BUT..........

By
Real Estate Agent with Cooper & Associates Real Estate

MySpaceMySpace can arguably be the best social networking website with over 198,000,000 members.  But, I know I'm not the only one that has received SPAM from my MySpace Friends without their knowledge.  Whether they were hacked, or phished or whatever the new cyber-terror threat that's out there, I'm getting unsolicited emails/messages/bulletins for all kinds of offers such as free ringtones, to free consumer electronics, to where I can meet "Hot Singles in my area"!  I've pretty much had it!  Besides, although some may argue that MySpace isn't for teeny boppers anymore, I'm still a little skeptical that I can receive any bonafide leads exclusively from MySpace.  Sure, MySpace is another way to get exposure in the Real Estate industry but with all the problems that MySpace and Tom have been having lately, is it worth the trouble?

Then you have FaceBook.  Yet another social networking website.  Great idea...but still sorta like MySpace only a little more difficult to use.

I then came across a free online community for anyone and everyone interested in setting (and achieving) their goals.  Pathconnect.com is social networking for the ambitious lifestyle.  Whether you're looking to lose a few pounds, rebuild a '57 Chevy, or start your own company, Pathconnect.com is a resource for turning your dreams into a reality.  You can create "paths" which are basically your goals/ambitions/aspirations and Pathconnect allows you to search for people that have the same goals/ambitions/aspirations and allows you to connect with them for support.  It also allows for people that have already completed those goals to connect with you as a mentor and allows you to contact them for advice.  The layout is great and similar to that of MySpace without all the SPAM attached.  For more info, click or paste the following into your address bar:  http://www.PathConnect.com/Register?c=113214

Chris,

I have the same concerns about Myspace. I created one and have received nothing but spam since. I will check out pathconnect.com soon.

Hi Chris and thanks for the heads up on Pathconnect. I just checked out their site and love their headline... social networking for the ambitious lifestyle. That probably describes most of us here on AR.

Marti,

My thoughts exactly!!! That's why I signed up, not to mention, I could search the profiles of people in California whose "paths" include buying their first house and offer to help them out with that "path"!

Chris,

I've been exploring Facebook, LinkedIn, etc, but this recommendation that you made for PathConnect is the first one that jazzed me.  I like the idea of connecting collaboratively.  1+1=3 or 12 or 52.  It's definitely got some potential.

Dru, I appreciate your comment!  I agree, I feel that PathConnect definitely has potential.  Plus, if you searched for PathConnect members in AZ, and tried to see how many of them have "paths" of purchasing a home, you could connect with these members and offer your services.  That's what I'm doing for the California members!

Social Networking is great for the visibility but what is the ROI on time spent keeping it up vs. actual business gained?

I've been debating whether or not to get on MySpace and have stayed away so far.  With the some of the things I've been hearing about it lately, I guess I've made a good choice.  Maybe I'll check out the Pathconnect.

Yeah, I'm not real impressed with MySpace either.   I do a lot of stuff online and really don't have time to look at and erase all the spam that flows from Myspace.

Hello, Chris!  I've been toying with the idea of Facebook since one blogger wrote about it, but MySpace is probably something I will not try.  So many real estate networks available that it gets difficult to handle.  AR takes up a lot of my free time (what is that?)  LOL

Thanks for giving me another insight on what's available out there.  Too many!  Thanks for sharing.
