Now that we are all buying flat screen TVs, those old TV armoires need a new purpose. You can reuse them a lot of different ways, a hidden home office, or craft center spring to mind. I took one and turned it into a home bar. I really don't like to add to the landfills, so repurposing furniture is a goal of mine. I took this old TV armoire, took off the doors, installed a simple back and tiled it with peel and stick floor tiles, added some under the counter glass racks from the bath and kitchen shop, added wine racks, a new shelf and a great new bar for less than $50. I added under the counter kitchen lighting behind the shelf, lighting up, not down. I use the drawers for entertaining items that can be easily accessed like glasses, napkins, chip and dip serving items, etc.
Ooooh Cindy you are one savvy gal, I like it and thanks for sharing! It turned out great.
You are one handy lady! I love this and I love that you made use of it in two difference places!
oh i love it, and the fact that you took the doors off so people can see its a bar area.
Thanks everyone, it was fun to make and is a great repurpose of something no longer needed for it's original use!
Cindy,
What a great idea! It's always good to re-purpose if you can and make use of a good piece of furniture.
Cindy ~ what a clever idea and especially great that it's reusing, recycling, repurposing. You're a smart cookie!
Cindy, I agree with everyone here that this is truly a very clever idea! It is great to find a resourceful way to re-purpose perfectly good furniture. Mine is a little bigger and it would be awesome for my home office!!
I love repurposing as well, and turned my old COMPUTER armoire into my TV armoire! That honking big computer got replaced by a flat screen, several years ago, but the TV didn't so they "switched places"! The computer is now on a desk and visible, but the TV is hidden away...You did a GREAT JOB, love both transformations, and the repurpose aspect makes them extra special!
I'd love to see more repurposed furniture, so if anyone has anything, please post a blog on it. I get so much inspiration and ideas from everyone else. Thanks!
Aren't you the clever one! What a great idea. We just store a lot of audio video stuff in ours.
Cindy - You were really thinking outside the box on this one. These are wonderful examples of creating something special out of not much. The wine stand looks great. I really got a kick out of you re-using the armoire doors on the tv stand. Fantastic.
Karen, a store selling hotel items sounds great, nothing like that near here that I have heard of, does it sell other things too?
Thank you Cindy! I visited a furniture "recycler" today. He actually takes back the cast offs from a major furniture chain. The returns the furniture stores make to the manufacturer are staggering...and it's sad to say the all have tags that say "Trash, please crush" All of it is sent off to be destroyed! I shop this "recycler" because I can fix a lot of the problems. Stagers...do a little research with your major furniture stores in your area and see what they do with the returned items.
Nothing like taking something outdated and making better with a new, innovative purpose! Very cool!
Debra, I don't think we have a furniture recycler on Long Island. If there is one, could someone let me know. Sounds great. Thanks again everyone!
Cindy, I have been looking at mine trying to decide what to do with it. I didn't want to get rid of it because I paid a fortune for it. Great idea.
Diane,
So many things you can do with it. Definitely love my bar. Enjoy and show pictures if you do something with it!
Cindy,
You are just amazing! Everything you touch turns to gold. I was just looking on Craigs list and saw a bunch of these armoires for almost nothing. For the exact reason you memtioned everyone has moved on to a larger TV so they no longer want these big pieces of furniture. You have made a whole new use for them. We might have to watch out now... the prices might go back up if they see what you have done with them. Great work Cindy!
Linda - I know they are cheap now because no one wants them. Just think of the possibilities! Thanks for the comments!!
