The new Corona Transit Center is now open to the public! This project developed an empty 2.1-acre site into a bus transit terminal, with an 8-bay bus plaza and a 26-stall parking lot. The location of the facility is adjacent to the Corona North Main Street Metrolink Station on the corner of N. Main Street and E. Grand Boulevard in the heart of the City of Corona.
The Transit Center will be a major hub for Metrolink and bus service for travelers to and from Orange, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino Counties. Along with the adjacent Metrolink station providing rail service, a number of direct bus transit services will utilize the new transit center including the Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) local bus service, Commuter Link Express bus service, Dial-a-Ride, and the Corona Cruiser. The site will also serve as a transfer point for inter-county and intra-county bus connections.
The new terminal includes covered loading/unloading platforms and separate, designated bays for each RTA connecting bus route. A pedestrian bridge and elevator was also built to connect the new terminal with the Metrolink station (crossing over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight rail tracks).
This project again demonstrates Corona's progressive approach in providing outstanding services for its community members who commute. In fact, Corona is one of only a handful Cities in California who offer multiple Metrolink stations and the related commuter support services that connect users from rail to road in a quick and easy system. Corona's North Main station is part of a well planned Transit Oriented District that continues to evolve and one that is actually enjoying new development and construction at a time when many cities are simply sitting stagnant.
