There's Something Screwy Going On

screwy jackThere's something screwy going.  I find myself saying that every once in a while during an inspection. I'm going through the house and happen upon some oddity that starts my head to hurting from me scratching my scalp in wonderment.

Here is a great example of a head massaging moment. This screw jack was obliviously a bit short for the job. So what's a person to do when the jack doesn't measure up for the task at hand? Why grab some bricks and other stuff and shim it of course. That'll hold everything up real good. Yes sir it sure will now won't it. Kind of reminds me of the leaning tower of Pisa on life support.

Besides this jack being screwy I have to believe the person who did the work may have been a little twisted.

Don't sneeze near that thing.

I have another good jack picture for you that I just took a couple weeks ago.  I found this in an attic supporting a broken rafter.

Wanda, okay.

David, It was. That's one of the things I like about this job, hardly a dull moment.

Nutsy, Is Wheat under there? I'm in the mood for a squirrel-cicle

Reuben, is that a floor jack? Those are super heavy. It would have taken a lot of effort to get it into the attic.

Charlie, Very possible, there was plenty of ingredient around the house.

Robert, There were plenty of bricks about, but I think this person was an engineer of sorts.

Michael, for sure.

Jay, How plumb could a dry stack of bricks and othe stuff stat out? Yes very bad.

Well, I was wondering where I left that screw driver. Did you also find my lockjaw pliers as well?

Ed, Sorry. I didn't find your pliers. Maybe you left clamp on a pipe in another house. :)

Yes, that was a floor jack.  Gotta give 'em credit for the effort.
