On October 9, 2007, Wake County, NC, voters will have the opportunity to vote to support Open Space Preservation, the Wake County Public Library system expansion and facility renovation, and capital improvements at Wake Tech Community College. Amenities we take for granted will benefit from the funds made available through successful referenda.
WakeGOV.com - 2007 Bond Referenda
As cited in the brochure and on the Wake County website, the advantages of bond financing for facilities and infrastructure include:
1. Bonds are the least expensive method of borrowing.
2. Bonds will provide long-term financing money immediately at the lowest cost to taxpayers.
3. Bonds amortization includes new residents and businesses so they share the costs of growth as they come to Wake County. Growth will help pay for its impact.
Funds for Wake Tech will help expand the Health Services Campus, to increase training opportunities for nurses, and other health professionals.
Two notable facts: Wake County loses about 1.5 acres per hour of open space to development or conversion to other uses. Previous bond issue funds have helped purchase and preserve over 1600 acres of desirable Wake County land.
The Cary, Wake Forest, and Fuquay Varina libraries are slated for replacement or expansion. New branches are planned for Middle Creek, Morrisville, and North Hills in Raleigh.
