Prosper, TX home sellers: Make sure your schools are named in the MLS listing!

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Dallas Suburbs: Prosper, Texas

The #1 factor for most home buyers I've encountered in DFW over the last ten years has been buying a home in a good school district.  The buyers, in many cases, like to research the schools ahead of their initial visit to the area.  Not providing them with reliable school data on the MLS is a big opportunity missed.  Prosper, Texas is known for having EXCELLENT schools.  Our reputation is far-reaching.  But, many agents are still posting just a general E=Prosper, M=Prosper, H=Prosper on the MLS listing.  That was fine in 2008, when none of the schools in Prosper were named in the North Texas MLS.  That was the only choice that agents were given.  But, times have changed, and the system has been updated.

Elementary Schools:

Rucker, Folsom, Baker, and more coming...

Middle Schools:

Rogers, and Reynolds (which must currently be selected as Prosper in our MLS, because this school was formerly the high school campus).

High School:

Prosper

Not only should your MLS listing contain the schools by name, but attaching the website hyperlink http://www.prosper-isd.net will help your prospective buyers get the information they want about Prosper schools without any additional effort.

We can make it easier on buyers to locate a home in our area just by being a little more diligent about the efforts we agents expend at the time the listing is set up.  If an agent isn't familiar with our area, they are very likely to just copy whatever some other listing has put down for the schools in Prosper.  But, I ask you:  In this day and age, what are you doing listing your home with an agent that isn't familiar with our area?

Since I got your attention with school names in the MLS, allow me one moment to express my deep concern for a bad trend starting up regarding for sale signs.  Some agents (no local ones, as I've been able to discern) have begun putting for sale signs outside the gate of gated communities or along Preston Road at the neighborhood entrance.  This isn't allowed in other parts of Collin County, and it should not be allowed in Prosper.  The last thing we need is for this trend to continue.  If you have a sign in any other location besides your own yard, please ask your agent to remove it.  You are cluttering up my town.  If the agent is so desperate for marketing exposure that they need signs out on our main roads, I can pretty much guarantee that I can find major flaws in their online marketing exposure.  The computer is where our buyers are these days, and they've been out there for some time.

Have a blessed day!
