Home Safe Should Remove There False Statement From There Advertising !

By
Home Inspector with Fairfield County Home Inspection LLC HO1-579

Beware ! Home Safe is claiming they can "SEE THOUGH WALLS" now. They are claiming that with a thermal Image they can "SEE THOUGH WALLS" They even have the NY times believing this! This is simple a False statement and can not be done. Thermal Imaging ( Infrared ) Detects tempter. No two surfaces have the same tempters. In the hands of a properly trained person knowing how to interpret the images Thermal Imaging is very useful. As a level 3 Themogapher an over 200 hours of training with Infrared Cameras. I can tell you with o There is know way you can SEE THOUGH WALLS. So Beware of any one who is making this claim they are misleading you to take you hard earn money.

This Is Flirs explanation on Thermal Imaging. They are the leader in this technology.                              The US Government is using flir Cameras Thermal Imaging for all there Military Needs

About Infrared Thermography

Taken from Flir Web site.     http://www.flirthermography.com/about

Thermography is the use of an infrared imaging and measurement camera to "see" and "measure" thermal energy emitted from an object. Thermal, or infrared energy, is light that is not visible because its wavelength is too long to be detected by the human eye; it's the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that we perceive as heat. Unlike visible light, in the infrared world, everything with a temperature above absolute zero emits heat. Even very cold objects, like ice cubes, emit infrared. The higher the object's temperature, the greater the IR radiation emitted. Infrared allows us to see what our eyes cannot. Infrared thermography cameras produce images of invisible infrared or "heat" radiation and provide precise non-contact temperature measurement capabilities. Nearly everything gets hot before it fails, making infrared cameras extremely cost-effective, valuable diagnostic tools in many diverse applications. And as industry strives to improve manufacturing efficiencies, manage energy, improve product quality, and enhance worker safety, new applications for infrared cameras continually emerge. text1

HomeSafe was the only home inspection franchise company featured in the article. HomeSafe is the only national home inspection franchiser that provides its franchisees and licensed users with specially customized infrared and acoustic technologies (patents pending) to, in effect, "see" and "hear" through a house's walls, floors and ceilings.

That's a crock!  Hopefully no one will fall for that.  I suggest going out and finding out what, if any, association they belong to, and file an ethics complaint.  That is outright false advertising, IMO.

Peter,

They have advertised right here on AR. I have responded to their blogs, but they never respond back. Do you think they do not want to get into a debate that might shine light onto their false and misleading claims.

I wrote a blog about infrared concerning its proper use and how information may be misleadingly presented titled; Infrared Thermal Imaging What's it Really Good For?

One problem I see is that many inspectors are buying cameras and not getting training. I also have an issue with FLIRs Building Science Certification. This is a unique classification to FLIR and not an industry certification. Thermographers are classified as Level 1, 2, or 3.

The other claim made by homesafe is the DOE is recommending infrared as part of a home inspection. This information has been twisted to conform to their claims. The DOE does recommend infrared scanning for energy loss, but not as a general home inspection tool. The DOE is not about homes in general, that would be HUD. So far HUD has not made a statement that I'm aware of regarding infrared and home inspections.

James,

Before I wrote this blog I called Home safe's president. I Simply wanted him to tell me How they can see though walls as I can not. He has yet to return my phone call. I am hoping this blog will prompt him to return my call.

Good luck with that, Peter LOL.  I doubt you will hear back from him, at least not until he writes his little song and dance script to explain how they have become superman.

Peter,

I doubt you will hear anything. They never responded to my remarks on their blogs, they very likely won't be calling you back. They aren't going to put themselves in a position where they can be made to look bad by someone who has knowledge about infrared.

I agree.  This is misleading.

I was interviewed for an article in the Chicago Sun-Times, written by a member of that consumer referral list group (not Craig's Group, the other one).  I made it, repeatedly, clear that we only see the very small surface temperature differenced and cannot see though walls.

What do they print?  "New technology allows home inspectors to see through walls."

Go figure.

Thermal imaging is nice, and can help with a lot of things, but I do not see how they could ever claim to "see through walls" with it.
