SCAM ALERT: Selling Large Items on Craigslist
Here's another one to be on the lookout for regarding Craigslist scams. Seems you can never be too careful these days. Getting harder and harder to take people at their word.
I just received an email from a friend of mine here in Prince William County, VA. They were trying to sell a sofa and loveseat on Craigslist. The price they were asking was $900. They were contacted by a buyer who wanted the couch and was willing to pay the $900. However, the buyer
also had a mover they needed to pay for a larger move, in addition to picking up the items from the sellers. So the buyer, having only one check, gave it to the sellers of the sofa for $3,000 and asked the sellers to send a check to their mover for $2,100.
You know what comes next. The $3,000 never cleared from the buyer. The $2,100 check written to the mover was cashed.
Who does this stuff? If you, a client or a friend is looking to sell an item on Craigslist, beware the latest scam.
