You might bring along some of the items if you ever go door knocking.
First, give them a reason to open the door and listen and a reason to do it again next time you're through the neighborhood. Some giveaway (like a magnet) and a market report with recent sales and things along those lines. Also carry some business cards, a pen and a small notebook. As you meet people and people ask questions, you want to make notes. Also take notes on which folks you talk with and give your card to - send them a follow-up note.
Also, put all of your items in a doorknob bag - if no one's home, you still leave your info and the time remains productive.
