The Public Library system of Santa Cruz County fundamentally acts as a fine institution in our society. Stretching from Boulder Creek to La Selva, Santa Cruz County host 10 established libraries. Each library varies in size and resources, among the largest of the 10 branches is the Central Branch in downtown Santa Cruz. In addition to 215,000 items available for lending, the library provides homework centers that include full computer usage of internet, word processing, printing etc, also meeting rooms are available for larger groups. Other useful attributes include microfilm readers, test proctoring, and text enlarger.
Santa Cruz County Public Library System dates back to the early 1900s and has been enriching the minds of our community ever since. The libraries provide not only resources for academic purposes, but also support for teens and kids in the community. Events like "Central Baby Story Time" invites parents to engage their children in reading and other fun learning activities. Our libraries are clearly vital parts of the greater Santa Cruz community.
Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries (FSCPL) is currently fundraising to advance the technology in our libraries. In the next three year, the FSCPL hopes to raise $1,000,000. Their Technology Campaign hopes to pay for self check-out equipment costing over $52,000, integrated Library System ("ILS") costing about $250,000 and new computers costing about $100,000 per year.
