I've been working in Real Estate for just under 4 months now and feel as though I've been riding the biggest rollercoaster in the park over and over again. You know the one I'm talking about, that beast you have to walk past a few times before you actually get in line. The first time you ride the coaster it is quite a thrill, but a bit scary just the same. After the second and third ride the thrill is still there, but your deathgrip has loosened a bit. After a few more rides you can actually raise your hands as you freefall toward the earth. And so it goes with lead generation and business start-up activities.
The drive to your first few FSBO previews creates the same anxiety you might feel when riding a coaster that's ascending the first big climb. The ensuing freefall is much like when you first connect with a FSBO.....very exciting. As you might already understand, Real Estate field work can be quite an exhilarating enterprise. Sure, making money can be an exhilarating experience that produces satisfaction, but I'm not referring to that feeling right now. I'm speaking about the feelings that you get when working with new prospects and there is no guarantee that your efforts with them will generate any income. It is simply the energy that you feel upon connecting with another human being that I'm getting at here. It is very important for real estate agents to capture the energy and enthusiasm they experienced during their first connection with a prospect. If you can, bottle this feeling up somewhere amidst your busy thoughts so that you can reflect and draw from that experience whenever you need a bit of oomph. Everyone is going to need that extra bit of enthusiasm at some point in their career. From a rookie's perspective that point will probably occur just when you think you've got a hold of the whole real estate business. I'm sure it occurs at different times for everyone, but what I'm really getting at here is to try to remember that first sweet emotion the real estate business provided for you, as it can help you ascend the next big climb and ultimately onward to the next exhilarating freefall.
